Heart of Missouri Balloon Club General Meeting, March 14, 2005


Minutes of the HOMBC meeting held at Daniel Boone Regional Library in Columbia on March 14, 2005
  1. Meeting called to order at 7:10 p.m.
  2. Old Business
    1. David has renewed the domain names used by the club and requested reimbursement. A motion by Herb was seconded, and reimbursement of $70.00 was approved by all members present.
    2. David reminded the membership that dues are $5 per year and invited those with outstanding dues to pay up. Dues are good for 12 months from when they are paid.
  3. New Business
    1. David requested reimbursement for refreshments supplied for the meeting. Leftovers will be brought to the next meeting. The motion to approve this expense was made by Renee, seconded, and passed by the membership.
    2. An email from Barb Davis was presented to the club membership. The mail contained details of the ``Colors in the Wind'' Balloon Festival to be held at the Mexico airport August 19-21, 2005. The event will be coordinated by the Mexico Parks and Recreation Department and will be held in conjunction with the Mexico Jaycees Air Show and Military Appreciation Day.
      • Maximum of 25 balloons
      • Pilots must have at least 50 hours PIC
      • Events listed below will be at the Mexico Airport:
        • Saturday afternoon Mass Ascension
        • Saturday Evening glow
        • At least 1 goal for Saturday or Sunday morning flights
        • Master Briefing on Saturday morning.
      • Application letters should go out no later than the first week of April, staff members will be announced at that time.
      • The HOMBC will be invited for a fun flight prior to the event.
    3. Herb announced that Jerry Tierman has the dates for the race in Eldon. They are July 8-10. There will be cash awards for participating in the glows. $50 for Friday and $25 for Saturday.
    4. Discussion of not for profit status. David presented information obtained from the Missouri Secretary of State's office outlining how to obtain nonprofit status for the club. Terry Montague mentioned that an IRS acquaintance could provide more information for the club. After a discussion the motion was made by Renee, seconded and approved to pursue nonprofit status using David's information and a meeting with Terry's friend.
    5. David passed around the latest club roster and requested that members make the necessary corrections.
    6. David set up a display of various PZ maps and asked for discussion of what type of map was desired by the club. Options include level of detail, size, and scale. A variety of materials are available including water resistant paper, Tyvek type material etc... This was discussed. More discussion is needed.
  4. Rumors overheard at the meeting
    There will be a few new balloons appearing in the Columbia are this year. Terry and Jeanettee took delivery of a new blue and white Firefly balloon bearing the ``American Standard'' logo. The Magee family will soon be monkeying around with a special shape balloon. Tim and Renee have ordered a new envelope from National Balloons Ltd. Colors and pattern are still a mystery. Renee mentioned a ``Callaway Flyaway'' gathering some time in May to introduce the balloon. Plans are still being made.
  5. Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
