Heart of Missouri Balloon Club General Meeting, September 9, 2002


Minutes of the nineteenth HoMBC General Meeting
Held at the Smokehouse Restaraunt at 1412 Forum, Columbia, at 7:00 p.m.
  1. Meeting called to order at 7:02 p.m.
  2. David Drum passed around printed minutes. Approval motion by Kathy Nichols/Deann Vance passed unanimously.
  3. Kathy Nichols reported no activity in club bank account ($1320.80). Approval motion by David Drum/Renee Graham passed unanimously.
  4. Marta Ferguson and David Drum reported that a final proof of the club logo embroidery has not been received from Embroider-It. One is expected soon, though.
  5. David Drum passed around candidate artwork and text for a club balloon card, soliciting comments. Discussion revolved around making the text larger through different means. David will attempt this change. Motion to have Carson Lane at Kustom Kards print 2000 cards at the Fiesta Special rate of $188 made by Fred Palmer/Carol Vance and approved unanimously.   6. Barb Davis provided a recap of the recent BFA Nationals. Deann Vance was congratulated for being voted the Rookie Observer of 2002.
  7. Barb Davis announced that a First Responders to Balloon Accidents video and associated curiculum has been developed by the Northeast Ohio Balloon Pilots Association. She is working to obtain more information about this course with the intent to have it available for the club and local emergency teams.
  8. Barb Davis passed along thanks from Karin Riepe and the Green Hills Balloon Club for use of our target at the Pershing Balloon Rally.
  9. Barb Davis stated that there have been requests from pilots to borrow the club target for practice. She suggested that guidelines for its loan needed to exist. Her main concern is damage to the target as a result of being stowed while wet. Deann agreed to be the keeper of the target. Tim made a motion to allow the white target to be checked out to club members. Renee made an amendment to require a $20 deposit for the target. The amendment was seconded by Deann Vance and passed. The motion (as amended) was seconded by Fred Palmer and approved unanimously.
  10. Barb Davis mentioned that a store at the Lake sells 100m and 150m tape measures at a good price. David Drum motioned to approve the purchase of a 150m tape measure. Motion seconded by Tim Graham and approved unanimously.
  11. Barb Davis talked about possible simplifications to BFA sanctioning rules to reduce the number of staff necessary to hold a sanctioned competition.
  12. Barb Davis announced that future HoMBC meetings would be held at the new Columbia Public Library.
  13. Barb Davis announced that the October HoMBC meeting has been moved to the 16th to give those balloonists returning/recovering from Albuquerque the chance to attend.
  14. Marta Ferguson announced that she and David are hosting the Montgolfier Day party on November 23rd. Invitations and further information to come!
  15. Meeting adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
