Of interest to pilots / pressure relief valves

I have been hearing all kinds of bogus information lately about pressure
relief valves.
It seems that someone has convinced some pilots that the Rego valves used
several years back for routine replacement in some tanks have a lower release
setting than Sherwood valves currently used by The Balloon Works.  This
misinformation likely came about because the Sherwood serial number, 235A ,
is stamped on the valve and someone mistakenly thought that that was the
release setting. That is wrong. The release setting for both valves,
according to both manufacturers is 375lb.  Both valves are UL certified and
approved in Canada by the CGA. According to Sid Conn at TBW, the proper
setting is 375lb. On two separate occasions Sid has assured me that it is
permissible for an aircraft mechanic to sign off valves not purchased from
them, as long as they have the same or better specifications.  Rego is the
industry leader in this kind of valve and TBW used Rego valve for years until
Rego stopped selling them to aircraft manufactures for liability reasons.
Many well respected repair facilities use these or other similar valves.
Please call me if you have any questions about this.
