Agenda Item for November Meeting

Dear HOMBC Members,

The HOMBC Executive Committee received the following letter from Renee,
along with her request that the club give consideration to adopting a
family for the holiday season. Her request will be placed on the
November agenda, and her letter accompanies this notice so that everyone
can have the information since some may not be famailiar with the program.

Don't forget to contact Herb Heriford, DeAnn Vance, or Kelly Shaw to
inform them of your willingness to serve as an officer or to recommend
someone else for an office.

See you Saturday! Don't forget your pumpkins!

Dear HOMBC Members:

The holidays are just around the corner, and I would like to ask the
Balloon Club to consider participating in the Voluntary Action Center's
Christmas Basket program. The Voluntary Action Center (VAC) anticipates
having a lot more families and fewer donations this season. Through
this program, HOMBC can sponsor a family of any size, 1 - 10 people,
including elderly or disabled persons.

If we choose to do this, we are asked to donate the makings of a
holiday meal and at least one new gift per family member under the age
of 18. (Or any age elderly or disabled person.)

An average donation of $50 - $75 provides food and gifts for one to two
people. A family of three is usually about $150 including groceries and
gifts.

HOMBC would be able to write a check to Voluntary Action Center which
will purchase food and gift certificates, or we can also choose to shop
for the gifts and give VAC a donation for the food certificate.

If we want to do this, we would need to have everything ready by
December 9th. I am willing to spearhead this project if the club agrees
to do it.

If the club decides to set a dollar amount, I will work with VAC to
make sure our money helps those in need the most. I am also willing to
send out the family's wish list if there are members who would like to
personally shop for gifts.

My office adopted a mother and 11 year old daughter last year, plus a
disabled adult male. Tim and I adopted a disabled adult woman. The
wish lists we received were for basic items most of us take for granted.
The mom wanted laundry detergent, household cleaners, light bulbs, and
kitchen wares. The daughter wanted socks, a winter coat, gloves and
perfume.
The disabled adults asked for clothes and a couple of items to decorate
their assisted living apartments. These truly are people in need and
their thank you letters were very touching.

Thanks for giving consideration to a club contribution to the Voluntary
Action Center's Christmas Basket Program. If you have any questions, or
would like further details, please contact me via e-mail at
RYG@GoColumbiaMO.com, or by phone. My work number is 875-1231, home
is 445-2688.

Thanks,
Renee
