Re: [balloon-makers] fork lift propane tanks
Tom,
I don't think there is any problem getting an experimental airworthiness
certificate for a balloon with fork lift tanks. The key word here is
experimental. However I would think that you could find ten gallon tanks for
a reasonable price. The empty weight difference would be minimal (few inches
taller) and the propane capacity 1/3 more. I know that new aluminum 10
gallon tanks can be had for less than $175.
I think that Emerald Isle Distrubitors sells balloon cylinders for that
price. (614-888-2788) I bought a couple of 6 pound aluminum tanks a couple
years back (for pilot light supply when using nitrogen) and they were great
people to deal with.
