[balloon-makers] Introduction
To start out, my name is Tom Deering. I certainly know less about
balloons than anyone else on this list.
I hope 42K ultralight balloon. 12 foot mouth, 14 foot vent, 18 foot
parachute. I have a HP II burner, no tanks or hoses.
I may try to implement turning vents, and I'd be willing to attempt a
"smart vent" if someone would explain how exactly they are built. :^)
I haven't decided on a basket. I think I may do a harness while it's
an ultralight, and put on a Boland basket when it's certified.
I've completely re-written the standard Smalley spreadsheet. Mine
does straight gore, half gore and tri-gore calculations. It does
weight and lift, and has total fabric used, total fabric needed (with
estimated waste) and some other things. It is, (as most things I
build,) over-designed and over-built. What can I say? I'm a trouble
maker. (When finished, I'll put it on my web site.)
In real life, I am a computer guy in Manhattan, where propane is
practically illegal. I have several very large kites, and do a bit
of photography. My wife and I just celebrated 11 years of marriage.
I like her.
Who else is here?
Cheers,
Tom
